John Edward Elliff (1886-1966) served in the A.S.C. Remounts during the war and was stationed at Swaythling between December 1917 and December 1919. In an interview he gave to a local newspaper when he retired as a bus conductor for London Transport in 1952, he said that while in the Remounts he was orderly to Lieut.-Colonel Hambro. When a boy he had trained as a jockey at Chantilly in France, which was preumambly why he was posted to the remounts.
